A lot of people make the mistake of wanting a perfect muscle up when first learning it, but learning that way will take a lot longer. Also, I learnt muscle ups the chicken arm way, then got 2 chicken arm muscle ups, and when I got 3, I was able to get 1 clean muscle up with both arms going over at the same time.
